The reknown scholar and value chain expert Dr. Temi Mutia had deferred his ambitions to contest for the post of Kitui County Assembly Speaker.

Speaking exclusively to this Desk, Dr. Temi said that he had arrived at the decision after wide consultations with his friends, family and even religious leaders.

"It is true I have withdrawn from the race for now. It was not an easy decision to make but I consulted widely among my true friends, my family and other quarters," Dr. Temi said when this desk asked him to shed light on the rumours that he was no longer running.

He however said that he is ready to apply his skills, knowledge and expertise in any other capacity whether in the county or at the National Government or elsewhere.

"I am open to serve in any other capacity where my skills, knowledge and expertise might be required," he added.

Dr. Temi stood tall at the former mbee nzei regime where his brilliant ideas in value chain addition saw mango farmers across the county and even beekeepers start earning from their products in a commercial way.

The speaker's race now pits the incumbent aged speaker George Ndoto who is seeking a third term amidst a stinging criticism from the current crop of MCAs and residents against lawyers BM Musyoki and Samson Nyamai Masila.

Others in the race are former Tseikuru Ward MCA Boniface Kilaa whose background is in finance and management as well as Kyalo Muli, a Dubai based businessman whose candidature is said not to inspire hope largely due to his detached demeanor on the issues affecting Kitui county.

Fatma Kasyoka, the only woman who had showed interest in the race chickened out after secretly telling her friends that the current MCAs are greedy ravens whose appetite for money is unequalled.

Other sources however have claimed that she was bought by the secretive Kyalo Muli to drop out in his favour.
