Speaker's Post Was Earmarked for Kinengo, He is a Young Man I know - Reveals Dr. Temi

It must have been around mid 2016. The General Elections were to be held in about a year's time.


Having consulted with the top Wiper party leadership and gotten the green light, I quickly started assembling an "army" of young volunteers, mostly drawn from our public universities, UoN, KU, TUK,JKUAT and others.


The criteria of those we recruited included:

~ One had to be from lower Eastern;

~ One had to be a student leader or with a passion for leadership;

~ One had to be willing to serve as a volunteer.


Amongst those from KU, and from Kitui County was Hon. Kiluma, the newly elected MCA for Mutonguni Ward;


From the UoN's Faculty of Law, we had Kelvin Katisya Kinengo, who at the time was the President of the Masters Students;


Other young turks whom we brought on board and the did a great job for the Party and the people of Ukambani included, Pat. Safari from Mutomo.


Curiously at the time, the Wiper Party Leader, H.E. Kalonzo Musyoka had also enrolled for his Master's degree in Law at the UoN, which meant that Kelvin Katisya was his President. 

 

The new, young team brought instant vibrancy to the Wiper Party and the Cord Coalition. 


Immediately after the 2017 general elections, many of these young men and women went to work in various capacities for many of the newly elected leaders across the 3 Counties of Ukambani.


And now, history has been made by the Kitui County Assembly, by overwhelmingly electing Kelvin Katisya Kinengo as Speaker of the Country Assembly of Kitui.


Many people in Kitui may not know this, however, Kelvin has over the last couple of years been on pro bono basis.


Most probably, it is this genuine desire to serve, which has seen the newly elected MCAs unanimously elect him as the Speaker of Kitui County Assembly


My warmest congratulations; Hon. Speaker Sir. 

Allow me to take this opportunity and congratulate you for this great achievement.


Kindly ensure that, you will not only guide the County Assembly of Kitui on matters legislation, but in addition, you will put in full use your legal mind to ensure that good laws which are of benefit to the people of Kitui County do not only originate from the Executive but also from the Assembly itself.

We are Going Digital & Paperless - says Governor Malombe

Governor Malombe with Nicholas Mulila  Our Reporter   The county government in partnership with Safaricom Plc has launched a digital platform that will enable county residents access county government services online. Dubbed myKituiApp , the digital platform which is meant to be a one stop shop will be instrumental in payment of county services such as business permits, parking fees and revenue management systems. The online tool will also come in handy in offering solutions around agriculture, health, utility bills and SME programs. State of Devolution: Kitui Leads other Counties in Service Delivery

Our Reporter   State of Devolution: Kitui leads other counties As the Devolution conference gets underway in Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu County, Kitui County under the leadership of Governor Julius Malombe has been cited as the best performing county among the 47 in the country. This is according to the latest report by the Council of Governors that was released by the chairperson Anne Waiguru.  The second performing county according to the unbiased report is Waiguru's Kirinyaga County followed by Vihiga in their position.  This feat has earned Governor Malombe a coveted position and honour in the Devolution Conference where he is expected to receive a standing ovation and a chance to address his colleagues and delegates drawn from across the country. President William Ruto is expected to officially open the conference tomorrow (Wednesday) with his deputy Rigathi Gachagua scheduled to close it on Friday.
