Amend Constitution to Allow for Rotational Presidency - Munyambu

Mr. Campbell Munyambu

Kenyans need to amend the constitution in order to pave way for rotational presidency. This will see each of the over 40 tribes in the country getting an equal chance of leading the country.

These sentiments have been put across by Mwingi Professionals Forum coordinator Campbell Munyambu who has called for a review of the constitution to pave way for this clause.

Mr. Munyambu said that an amendment to the constitution needs to be done at the earliest time before the top Leadership of the country becomes a preserve of two or three communities.

He regretted that since independence, only two tribes have been at the helm of the presidency, saying that this has contributed to marginalization of other parts of the country.

"Kenyans should seriously think about amending the constitution to allow for rotational presidency. It is morally wrong to have only two tribes being at the top Leadership" Munyambu said.

He said rotational presidency will address political instability in the country, inequality and endemic marginalization.

"Rift valley and Central Kenya have held the presidency for a total of almost 60 years. This should not be allowed to continue because they will always be the regions that are developed while other parts of the country suffer," Munyambu pointed out.

Meanwhile, the professional has poured cold water on President William Ruto's recent visit to Kitui county, saying he did not address locals' concerns.

Munyambu said that the head of state  ignored all the requests put across by local leaders, casting doubt on his commitment to serve all parts of the country equally.

Of note is that the president did not respond to a request to complete the tarmacking of Kibwezi - Kitui - Mwingi road which stalled at Kwa Siku area in Mwingi West, some 15km before going the Mwingi - Garissa highway.

"He was asked to do specific things for Kitui county. He did not address any. This speaks volumes about what he thinks of the Kamba community," remarked Munyambu while at the same time advising the president to unite the country through development and not rhetoric.
