Lifeline For County Hospitals As Drugs Arrive

County residents visiting public health facilities will no longer be required to buy drugs from private chemists as was the case in the past.

This is because Governor Julius Malombe has moved in to breathe life into the once neglected health facilities by stocking them with requisite drugs and non pharmaceutical commodities.

The Governor has procured drugs worthy Ksh 108 million from Kemsa. On Wednesday, Dr. Malombe flagged off the 23 trucks 🚛 consignment where the drugs are already being distributed to the 306 health facilities spread across the vast county.

"I undertook to revitalize the health care sector in our county within 100 days and this is exactly what we are doing. This consignment is part of the efforts to make sure that our people have access to drugs and quality healthcare in public health facilities," Governor Malombe said while flagging off the drugs at Kitui Level IV hospital.

He was in the company of his Deputy Augustine Kanani, Speaker Kevin Kinengo as well as outgoing health CEC Winnie Kitetu.

The Governor said his administration will work closely with the National Government through the Universal Health Care programme to ensure the county residents have access to ready and quality health services.

He added that his administration will emphasize on promotive and preventive healthcare services to reduce the number of people visiting hospitals due to preventable ailments.

On Community Health Volunteers, Dr. Malombe promised that they will be transitted to Community Health Workers with a favourable scheme of service.

DG Kanani urged health care workers to cultivate a good attitude while attending to patients, saying that Dr. Malombe's administration is committed to their welfare and good working environment.

The timely move by the Governor to revamp the health sector has seen doctors and other healthcare workers motivated and ready to serve wananchi.

"The past administration put us in a very awkward position. They would lie that they had procured medicine yet as medical Practitioners we knew that was a lie. Sadly we could not say it. We are happy that Governor Malombe is living true to his promise," remarked a doctor based in Kitui South.

"These are drugs, not condoms..."
