At only 17 years, Michael Mwendwa Mumo is shattering the academic glass ceiling.

The young Michael, who hails from Kalisasi village in Mwingi Central is the son to Dr. Evans Mumo who is serving as Medical Superintendent at Mwingi Level IV hospital

Michael sat his KCSE exams at the prestigious Alliance High School which he joined by merit four years ago after scoring 433 marks out of a possible 500 at Star Sheikh Academy in Machakos County

When the KCSE results were announced on Friday, Mwendwa had scored a clean A, and straight As in all the 8 subjects including German.

So what does he say about his stellar performance?

"I am extremely happy and humbled. I thank God, my teachers and parents for seeing me through this victory," Michael says

The student promises to aim higher after joing the university.

So what career path is he planning to pursue?

"I am currently evaluating several options and in consultations with my parents. I will make the final decision soon," says Michael, whose both parents are in the medical field

Dr Virginia Muviku Mumo is Michael's mother. She is a medical doctor - a Paediatric Endocrinologist at Kitui County Referral Hospital. Like her husband Dr. Mumo,  Dr. Virginia was also a top student at Precious Blood - Kìlùngù in Makueni County.

Dr. Mumo is proud that his son has set an academic record not only at The Alliance but also in the Country.

"All Glory to God," enthuses Dr. Mumo, an alumni of Lenana School where he was also an A student. He was the best student in Kitui County in 1990 KCPE.

He advises fellow parents to get closely involved in their children's education.

"Liaise with teachers and other parents to help, monitor and motivate the students. More importantly, motivate teachers who sacrifice alot for the students," Dr Mumo advises.
