Over 1200 women drawn from three Wards have today (Monday Sep 11) benefitted from a donation of water tanks from a Korean organisation meant to boost food security at household level and generate income.

The donation from Korean International Corporation Agency (KOICA) is a testament to how Governor Julius Malombe's administration is  working closely with development partners to advance the cause of development for the benefit of Kitui county residents.

The women farmers from the 3 wards of Kauwi, Mutomo and Athi have been co-opted into a four year project dubbed economic empowerment for women through climate smart agriculture by the county government.

Speaking after flagging off the 164, (1000 litre) tanks for distribution to the women groups, governor Malombe urged the local farmers to practice Climate Smart Agriculture as a way of addressing hunger and food insecurity as well as beating the impact of climate change.

The women groups also received an additional six (10,000 litre) to practice agroforestry as an economic venture.

This is a programme that directly empowers women. They will be able to harvest rain water and practice small holder irrigation farming geared towards eliminating hunger at household level  as well as generating income and improving their livelihoods,” said the governor whose administration has received accolades from different quarters, among them president William Ruto who commended Governor Malombe for good governance when he toured KITUI's exhibition booth during the ended devolution conference in Eldoret.

Governor Malombe said his administration is working closely with development partners to bridge the gap on budgetary allocations, with a view to initiating more development projects for the benefit of the locals.

So why are development partners among them USAID, JICA, KOICA and others so much attracted to Kitui county the way bees would be attracted to nectar?

The answer is; Good Governance. Governor Malombe is an acknowledged consumate thinker, a meticulous planner and a tenacious executioner of tangible projects that directly benefit wananchi.

Above all, his administration is transparent, with tough stance on corruption and this has given development partners an assurance that their funds will be a safe investment in Kitui County.

More development partners means more projects and services to the county residents.

Indeed Kitui County can only get better under Governor Malombe, EGH.

Meanwhile, Agriculture CECM Stephen Mbaya has advised county residents to take advantage of the projected El-nino rains to produce enough food and harvest rain water for lean times in the future.
