Dr Malombe's Condolence Message To Mwingi Families

The ill fated bus moments before it plunged into River Enziu

Kitui's pioneer governor Dr Julius Malombe has sent his condolences to the families of victims who drowned at River Enziu when their bus overturned as it tried crossing the swollen river on Saturday.

Dr Malombe said he had learnt of the horror accident with deep shock.

The pioneer governor noted that the loss of over 20 people was a big blow not only to the Catholic Church but also the county in general.

He prayed that the affected families and the survivors get fortitude, adding that they need counselling to cope with the trauma.

Here below is his message

I have learnt of the Mwingi horror accident at River Enziu with a deep sense of shock and loss.

It is quite saddening that innocent lives could be lost in such a gruesome manner. This is a big blow to the Catholic church and the county as a whole.

My heart bleeds for the families who have lost their loved ones. It is indeed a sad day for Kitui.

I would like to take this opportunity to offer my sincere condolences to the affected families and pray for speedy recovery for those injured.

May the souls of those who have departed Rest In  Eternal Peace.

Dr Julius Makau Malombe

Pioneer Governor Kitui County.

The accident occurred when the bus belonging to St Joseph Mwingi seminary attempted to cross the river before it was toppled by raging waters.

By yesterday evening, 23 bodies had been retrieved while 10 people had survived. It is believed more people could be trapped inside the bus which is still stuck in the river.
