South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) will establish a campus in Mwingi starting November this year.

This commitment was made by the university Vice Chancellor Professor Geoffrey Muluvi on Friday when he met Mwingi Professionals at the university grounds at Kwa Vonza.

The professionals had paid a visit to the Vice Chancellor to find out what plans the university has with a piece of land they donated to the university some years ago.

Prof Muluvi assured the professionals that plans are still underway to ensure the campus at Kanzoka area in the outskirts of Mwingi town is developed.

"The vice chancellor assured us that the plan to put up a campus in Mwingi is still valid. He told us by November they will put up a chain link on the piece of land we donated to the university," revealed Campbell Munyambu, the coordinator of Mwingi Professionals Forum.

Mr. Munyambu further revealed that the professionals bought 30 acres of land and donated half of it to the university to put up a campus. The rest of the land will also be discharged to the university when it kicks off the construction works, Mr. Munyambu disclosed.

"It is 30 acres but we have donated 15 acres to the university first. After we see their commitment in developing the campus, we shall relinquish the other half to the university. We are happy everything is going on well," Munyambu added.

State of the art campuses

South Eastern Kenya University has earned its place as one of the top universities in the region and has also received recognition from the National Government for proper management. Recently the university established two state of the art campuses; one in the outskirts of Kitui town and another one in Wote town, Makueni County.
