Dr Evans Mumo promoted after excellent performance as Health Ministry moves 220 health officers

Kitui County Ministry of Health and Sanitation has effected transfers and promotions of 220 health officers in bid to streamline the sector for efficient health service delivery.

Those posted to new stations include medical doctors, Clinical Officers, nurses, pharmacists, medical engineers, radiographers, dieticians among others.

Through a posting order number 1 of 2023 dated 7th July and signed by the three departmental Chief Officers (Dr Musyoka Benson for Medical Services, Dr Lynn Kitwan, for Public Health & Sanitation and Aggrey Kamba in charge of drugs and Medical Supplies), the transfers are to take effect immediately.

Among the prominent officers promoted and transferred include Dr Evans Mumo who is now the Mwingi North Sub-county Health Services Coordinator and will be based at Kyuso subcounty hospital.

Dr Mumo’s stellar performance as medical superintended for Mwingi Level IV hospital has earned him the envious posting where he will now be the overall boss for Tseikuru and Kyuso hospitals and all the other health facilities in Mwingi North.

His place has been taken over by Dr Hellen Kathini Munyao, a medic of high standing who takes over as Medical Superintended at Mwingi Level IV. Dr Munyao has specialized in Obstetrics and gynaecology and has in the past worked as Medical Officer of Health at Mbagathi hospital, Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital and Thika Level V hospital. She will be deputized by Dr Munyoki Kennedy Fundi, another solid health professional of impeccable achievements.

Dr Mumo’s achievements as Medical Superintendent Mwingi include overseeing smooth running of the maternity theatre, lobbying for water purification plant to enhance stable water supply in the hospital and overseeing installation of Hims system which gives real time updates of the hospital revenue transactions among others.

With these achievements, it was only fair that Mumo gets a promotion.

Governor Julius Malombe’s administration has also promoted two nurses to the positions of Subcounty Health Services Coordinators which is a valuable opportunity for the nurses to gain experience in different healthcare settings. Celestine Mwamburi, one of the promoted nurses will be incharge of health services in Kitui West while the other will be in charge of Kitui South.

According to the posting order, staff deployment aligns with the vision of the County Ministry of Health and Sanitation and is a strategic approach towards optimizing its human resource and ensuring efficient service delivery.

Staff deployment at the ministry of health and sanitation in Kitui is crucial for enhancing service delivery, ensuring proper staff placement, festering professional growth and achieving the ministry’s vision.

“Through deployment, the ministry will optimize staffing levels and ensure that each facility has the necessary personnel to deliver quality healthcare. Deploying healthcare staff members to facilities with higher service needs ensures that the workload is adequately managed leading to improved healthcare services,” the posting order discussed and approved by the three departmental Chief Officers reads in part.

The health officers who have been transferred and those promoted have until 14th July 2023, to report to their new work stations and hand over before 21st July.

The provision of quality and timely healthcare services is at the heart of Governor’s Malombe’s manifesto. The governor through his dedicated officers has moved in to revamp the health sector which for the last five years had collapsed.
