5th Edition of Kitui Agricultural Show & Trade Fair's Opens Doors Tomorrow

A three day Agricultural Bonanza will be opening its doors as from tomorrow - Thursday all the way to Saturday where farmers will showcase their best farming practices both in farm products and livestock.

The Agricultural Show is running under the theme; Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Food and Nutrition Security and Economic Growth.

The fete is one of the key initiatives of Governor Julius Malombe's administration which has initiated strategic steps to lead the county residents through efforts towards food security.

The County Government, through the County Minister for Agriculture Stephen Mbaya has urged the county residents to adopt climate smart agricultural activities as a way of beating the effects of climate change which has resulted in depressed rains in Arid and Semi Arid Lands, thus food insecurity.

"Governor Malombe has revived the Agricultural Show after a five year hiatus and this gives farmers a good opportunity to showcase their inspiring agricultural skills," waziri Mbaya said while on a tour to inspect Ithookwe Showground.

The County Minister advised county residents to stop over reliance on rain fed agriculture which is unreliable. He noted that the County Government in conjunction with development partners is promoting the adoption of climate-smart agriculture to enhance the County's food security and improve livelihoods.

More importantly, farmers have been urged to go into livestock production which is a viable activity in the county buoyed by accommodative tropical climate and vast grasslands.

About 150 national and international exhibitors will be showcasing their work at the Show.

The show will also provide school children and families with opportunities to indulge in fun activities such as boat riding, horse riding, bouncing castles, merry go rounds, bike rollers among others.
